Terms of Use
These terms cover your use of the Castline app and getcastline.app. We’ve tried to keep them short and in plain English.
The short version
- Your scripts and recordings belong to you.
- AI-written scripts can be wrong. Check them before you read them on camera or publish them.
- Castline Plus is billed by Apple and renews automatically until you cancel.
- Use Castline lawfully, and don’t misuse the AI features or our server.
- Castline is still in development, so features may change.
1. Agreement
These terms are an agreement between you and the Castline team (“Castline”, “we”, “us”). By downloading or using the Castline app or this website, you agree to them. Your license to use the app itself comes from Apple’s Licensed Application End User License Agreement. These terms add to it, and if the two conflict about your license to the app, Apple’s agreement controls. Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle information.
2. Who can use Castline
You must be at least 13, or the minimum age in your country, to use Castline. If you’re under the age of majority where you live, a parent or guardian must agree to these terms for you. Sharing tester recordings requires being 18 or older.
3. A product in development
Castline is still being developed. We may add, change or remove features, limits or supported devices. Some features may be labeled as beta or test features and may not work perfectly.
4. Your content
You own the scripts you write or import, the descriptions you type, and the recordings you make (“your content”). We don’t claim any ownership of it. Most of it never leaves your device. Where a feature you use needs to send content to us or a provider, for example sending your description to write a script or sharing diagnostics you opted into, you give us permission to process it only to provide that feature.
You’re responsible for your content and for having the rights to use it, including text you import, music, and the voices and faces of anyone you record. Please keep your own copies of anything important. We can’t recover scripts or recordings stored on your device or in your iCloud.
5. AI-generated scripts
- Who writes them. New scripts are written by a third-party AI model (currently xAI’s Grok) through our server. Rewrites use Apple’s on-device model where available.
- They can be wrong. AI output may be inaccurate, incomplete, out of date, generic or inappropriate, and other people may receive similar text. We tell the model not to invent specific facts, prices, statistics, names or addresses, but it can still make mistakes. AI output doesn’t reflect our views.
- Review before you use them. You’re responsible for what you say and publish, including claims about products, properties, prices, health, money or the law. AI scripts are not professional advice.
- Using the output. As between you and us, you may use scripts written for you for any lawful purpose, and we claim no rights in them. We can’t promise that output is unique or protected by copyright.
- Limits. We may decline requests, filter output, and set usage limits, which are shown in the app and may change.
- Other AI apps. If you choose ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok or Copilot from the app, your use of that service is governed by its own terms.
6. Acceptable use
Please don’t use Castline to:
- break the law or violate anyone’s rights, including copyright, trademark, privacy and publicity rights;
- create or spread content that is hateful, harassing, defamatory, sexually exploits minors, promotes violence, or deceives people, such as impersonation, fraud or scams;
- record people without any consent the law requires;
- get around usage limits, subscription checks or access code rules, or sell or widely share access codes;
- overload, probe or interfere with our server, send automated requests, or use the AI feature for anything other than writing scripts;
- copy, modify or reverse engineer the app except where the law allows it.
7. Castline Plus subscriptions
- Some features need Castline Plus, an auto-renewing subscription sold through Apple’s App Store. The available plans, the price and any free trial or offer are shown in the app before you buy, and may vary by country and change over time.
- Payment is charged to your Apple Account when you confirm the purchase.
- Your subscription renews automatically at the end of each period unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the current period ends. Apple charges the renewal within the 24 hours before the period ends.
- You can manage or cancel your subscription in your Apple Account settings (on iPhone or iPad: Settings › your name › Subscriptions). Deleting the app doesn’t cancel it.
- If a free trial is offered, it becomes a paid subscription when it ends unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the trial ends. Any unused part of a free trial ends when you buy a subscription.
- Apple handles billing and refunds under its own policies. We can’t issue refunds directly. You can ask Apple for one at reportaproblem.apple.com.
- Promotional offers, offer codes and access codes may come with their own terms, shown when you redeem them. They may be limited in number, may expire, are personal to you, can’t be transferred, and have no cash value. We may cancel a code that was obtained or used against these terms.
8. Third-party services
Castline works with services from other companies, including Apple (App Store, iCloud, speech recognition, Apple Intelligence and Photos), xAI, and the apps you choose to share your takes to. Their terms apply to your use of them, and we aren’t responsible for them.
9. Our app and brand
The app, its design, and the Castline name and logo belong to us. These terms don’t give you any right to use our name or logo. If you send us feedback or ideas, we may use them without owing you anything.
10. Disclaimers
To the extent the law allows, Castline is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We don’t promise that the app will be uninterrupted or error-free, that voice follow, speech recognition, captions or AI writing will be accurate, or that a take will always be saved without loss. Some places don’t allow these exclusions, so parts of this section may not apply to you.
11. Limitation of liability
To the extent the law allows, we aren’t liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits, lost data or lost recordings, arising from your use of Castline. Our total liability for any claim relating to Castline is limited to the greater of the amount you paid for Castline Plus in the 12 months before the claim or US$50. Nothing in these terms limits liability that can’t be limited by law, or your rights as a consumer where you live.
To the extent the law allows, you agree to cover our reasonable losses from claims by others that arise from your content or from your breaking these terms.
12. Ending these terms
You can stop using Castline anytime by deleting the app. Cancel any subscription separately in your Apple Account settings. We may suspend or limit your access to online features, such as AI writing and access codes, if you break these terms or to protect the service or others. We may also stop offering Castline or any feature. Sections 4, 5, 9, 10, 11 and 13 continue to apply after these terms end.
13. Changes, law and the rest
Changes. We may update these terms. We’ll post the new version here with a new effective date, and tell you in the app or on this website first if a change is material. If you keep using Castline after a change takes effect, you accept the updated terms.
Governing law. These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, USA, and disputes will be handled in the state or federal courts located in California, except where the law of the place you live requires otherwise.
Apple. These terms are between you and us, not Apple. Apple isn’t responsible for Castline or its content, has no obligation to provide support for it, and is a third-party beneficiary of these terms with the right to enforce them against you. Apple’s Standard EULA covers the rest of Apple’s role.
General. If part of these terms can’t be enforced, the rest still applies. Not enforcing a term isn’t a waiver. You may not transfer these terms. We may transfer them as part of a merger, acquisition or sale of assets.
